Dreaming of monsters

Italian translation here.

Having a perverse mind sometimes can be tricky. It’s excellent if you want to be creative, of course! What can be better for a horror books writer than having a whole monstrous world inside your head? You don’t need to do any effort at all, things are there already, just waiting to be written! Couldn’t wish for more, could you? You can calmly sit and drink your 5 pm tea in front of your computer while unleashing hell throughout your pages. I’m very grateful for my twisted psyche and my incredibly fertile imagination, which constantly provide new material for my work and thanks to which I can boost my creativity and enter in the history of art.

Only… it’s not always so simple. Unfortunately. It’s not that you have some sort of switch, or a magical closet where you can shut in all your pretty monsters when you just can’t stand them any more. Nope. Nopety nope. You’ve got to face them when they feel like, if you please and if you don’t please, at any time of day. And at any time of night. Especially, at any time of night. Especially when they decide to pay you a visit in your dreams, as if you didn’t think about them enough when you’re awake. Like last fucking night for example.
And then there’s that idyllic moment. When you have to wake up at 7 o’stupid after a half-sleepless night, after those few hours you managed to sleep through were populated by all sorts of unsettling presences, after you witnessed such pyrotechnical artwork that not even Hiroshima, after you had to go through your nth psychological Armageddon. In that idyllic moment, the only thing you want to do with “your twisted psyche and your incredible fertile imagination” is to throw them out of the window and get back under those covers. In that idyllic moment you need an instruction booklet only in order to prepare fucking breakfast. In those mornings, in morning like this, of your creativity you could care less.

And the funny thing is that since I’m quite the systematic kind I also make an effort to go to sleep at a decent hour unless it’s a party, and yesterday I was in bed at 23:35 as a good alien, and I also watched a relaxing video before going to sleep! So much for relaxation uh? xD

Oh you pretty things, you’re driving me insane. If only you could rest when I have to rest too!
